Blendon and Penhill Councillors

David Leaf

I am an experienced Bexley Councillor who has lived in the Borough all my life. Having been to school in the Borough I am extremely passionate about supporting high quality education for all to give young people the best start in life. My first job was in a local small business and as a result of that role I know how hard people work to support themselves, their family and community. That is why I am committed to making Bexley an even better place for businesses of all sizes to start-up, grow and thrive.

I believe that politicians should help people to have more freedoms, more choices and more control over their lives. That is why I support low taxes, new opportunities for families to own their own home and am here to help residents with their problems and concerns.

My priorities are to campaign to keep our streets clean, roads maintained and community safe so Bexley remains a great place to both live and work.

I have been a Councillor for 20 years and have represented Blendon and Penhill since 2006. I have contributed greatly to the Council and to my residents over the years. I am visible, and my residents have got to know me very well. I try to help people whenever and however possible to the best of my ability. I was Mayor of the London Borough of Bexley in 2008/09 when I worked very hard promoting Bexley with Bexley’s heritage and why Bexley is an excellent Borough to live in with many benefits, including good schools, open spaces, good transport links to London and a safe Borough. I also enjoy fund raising for various groups and organisations, when Mayor I raised over £32,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. I live in Welling and have lived in Bexley for over 25 years, both my children went to Bexley schools and I owned my own business in the Borough and currently work in Bexleyheath. I gained a teaching degree in my early 50’s and I am proud of our education system where anyone at any age, and whatever background can achieve whatever they wish.

I am honoured to be one of your local council candidates for Blendon & Penhill Ward. I currently work for the Conservative Party at the London level and have experience of working in the commercial sector before my time in politics. I am extremely passionate about protecting our green spaces, maintaining good council services and ensuring Bexley remains a great place to both live and work.

If elected, I will prioritise the needs of the residents of Blendon & Penhill. This includes conveying the concerns of residents to the local Neighbourhood Policing Team; ensuring that the local roads are managed in an efficient manner, especially around our schools; and making sure that the Hurst Community Centre continues to deliver valuable services to residents.I am honoured to be one of your local council candidates for Blendon & Penhill Ward.
