Having lived and worked in the borough for many years I have an understanding of what’s important to those living & working locally and have tried to represent that over the 12 years I have been a Councillor. During that time I have also helped many residents with issues as wide ranging as school places to planning applications.
I have a strong interest in sport and helped set up the new soccer centre locally as well as being involved in helping Charlton Athletic set up their Community engagement project which helps many Bexley residents.
I’m a firm believer that education is key to the successful future of our borough through our young people and have been pleased to be the Cabinet Member responsible working with the schools to oversee the welfare and educational standards of the young people in our schools.
I was born in Welling and have lived in Bexley all my life. In 1973 I moved to Northumberland Heath and have lived there for the past 45 years.
I was educated at East Wickham and Elsa Road schools in Welling from 1945/1956.
On leaving school I served an apprenticeship at a local garage and also attended Gravesend Technical College on day release for five years obtaining my Full Technology Certificate. In 1971 I then went on to become a lecturer in Motor Vehicle Mechanics at Bexley College.
I also ran a successful business for over 35 years, this gives me a good knowledge of the concerns and problems that small businesses have.
I have been an active member of the Mayor of Bexley’s Charity Committee for over 30 years raising money for worthy local causes. I have also served as Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Bexley in my 10 years of being a Councillor.
My main priorities and interests are with the environment, recycling and the cleanliness of Bexley.
