West Heath

John Davey

I have lived in the new West Heath Ward all my life. I will continue to work hard to keep it a place that we all love to live in; looking after our parks and open spaces, improving our roads and pavements and keeping it clean and safe.

I sit on Bexley Council’s Planning Committee and will continue to fight against any inappropriate developments. I am a member of Bexley’s Natural Environment Forum and have served as a member of the NHS S.E. London Joint Boards. Improving and sustaining local health and care services I consider a high priority for any Councillor.

As a Governor of Bedonwell School for more than ten years, I believe that every child has a right to the best education.

Now retired as a Software Design Consultant, I am a keen amateur guitarist and artist and regularly organise local art events and exhibitions.

Philip Read

I have lived in Bexley virtually all my life and was a pupil at both Bedonwell School and BETHS. I am married and have two daughters both of whom attended local schools.

I have been a Member of Bexley Council for a total of eleven years and have served as Chairman of Bexley’s Finance & Corporate Services Scrutiny Committee and, for the last four years, as Cabinet Member for Children’s Services during which time we have seen significant improvements in the way we look after our most vulnerable and at risk children.

My working life has been spent in the travel industry which provided me the opportunity to visit many countries worldwide giving me an understanding of, and appreciation for, different cultures.

Away from politics I served as a school Governor for 16 years and enjoy collecting books and, (sometimes less enjoyably!), I support both Charlton Athletic and Kent Cricket.

I’m married to Irene and we have 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. I’ve lived in Bexleyheath for all but five years of my life and for the last 15 years in the new West Heath Ward.

I’m a professional accountant in practise for 40 years until my recent retirement, and am a qualified member of the Institute of Financial Accountants. As a member of Bexley Council since 2006 my interest in serving the wider community is reflected in continuous service on the Planning Committee and Peoples Scrutiny with particular emphasis on Adult Services. As an elected member for West Heath Ward, I would continue to devote my time to addressing all issues of concern to residents I represent.

In my spare time I collects books on medieval history and Science and still harbour hopes of completing my Natural Sciences degree with the OU. I am also a long suffering supporter of Charlton Athletic.
